I really enjoyed this film for Spotify Premium, so I went all in and created my own music and sound design for it.
My aim was to tell the story through its natural build and playful energy. For the sound design, I recorded live foley FX using a mix of wooden, glass, and stone objects scavenged from my kitchen. These gave a tactile, physical texture to the movements on screen.
I then blended them with electronic effects crafted using various synthesisers, adding a layer of stylised detail. The mixing stage was equally important, employing panning and reverb techniques to create a sense of depth and scale.
All of this was paired with my original funk-pop-electro track, designed to capture the vibrant energy of the Spotify brand.
The brief for this channel branding film for Saudi TV was a unique challenge. The client initially approached me as a composer, wanting the film to come alive with emotion. However, during Ramadan in Saudi Arabia, music is discouraged.
The solution was lean into my sound design skills. So I created a soundscape that, while not overtly musical, blends subtle tonal elements into a sound-design-led result.
All of the sounds are synthetic, reflecting the digital aesthetic of the on-screen animation. As a nod to the significance of Ramadan in the Islamic calendar, I wove in subtle Middle Eastern call-to-prayer textures to give the piece a sense of place and cultural depth.
